Join Gisèle Côté, Program Officer for Classical Music at the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec, and professors Hank Knox and Sara Laimon of the Performance department of the Schulich School of Music for an insider's view of the grant application process. When am I ready to apply for a grant? What kinds of projects attract funding? What does a successful grant proposal look like? Come ready to explore these questions and more.

 

This workshop, organized by the Schulich School of Music, the McGill Library, McGill's Career Planning Service (CaPS), and MUSA, is part of SKILLSETS: Professional Development Workshops for Graduate Students, a new initiative by Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies and Teaching and Learning Services.

Teaching Assistant/Graduate Instructor Award PDF Print E-mail

Schulich School of Music Outstanding Teaching Assistant / Graduate Instructor Award

 

One prize of $500 will be awarded annually at the Spring convocation.

 

Eligibility

Nominated candidates must be Teaching Assistants or Graduate Instructors hired by the Schulich School of Music. Candidates must have taught in the 2009-2010 academic year.

 

Description

The Schulich School of Music recognises excellence, commitment and innovation on the part of Teaching Assistants and Graduate Instructors, and the important role that they play in the academic experience of undergraduate students in the School.

 

Criteria

A nominee must have demonstrated superior teaching skills and provided superior service to students, beyond his/her duties. Such activities can include:

 

  • Lectures, assignments, or handouts that greatly enhanced the students’ understanding and appreciation of the subject matter
  • Providing extra help to students outside of class beyond what is required
  • Inspiring students to further continue their studies in the subject at hand
  • Showing great enthusiasm for the subject matter

 

Nomination Procedure

Undergraduate, Artist Diploma or Licentiate students of the Schulich School of Music must submit a completed Nomination Form to the M.U.S.A. office (E-104) by Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at 5:00 p.m. If multiple students wish to nominate their Teaching Assistant/Graduate Instructor together, they may indicate this on the form. After receiving all of the nominations, the M.U.S.A. will notify all nominees, who will then submit a Statement of Teaching Approach and a letter of reference from their supervising professor by Monday, March 15, 2010 at 5:00 p.m.

Yoga for Musicians Winter 2010 PDF Print E-mail

Yoga for Musicians is back for 2010!

Classes are offered on Wednesdays, starting January 13th, and Tuesdays starting February 2nd.

Be sure to read the dates below, as the schedule is different for each class.

Tuesday Schedule: 2:30-3:30- Alison Ulan, instructor
February: 2, 9, 16 (no class on 23rd due to Reading Week)
March: 9, 16, 23, 30 (no class on 2nd due to MusiMars)
April: 6, 13

Wednesday Schedule: 1:30-2:30- Laurel Koop, instructor

February: 3, 10, 17 (no class 24th due to Reading Week)

 Yoga mats are provided, but you may bring your own.
